Motorinfo – where to find it?

The engine information for a diesel engine is normally located in a clearly visible place on the engine. Here are some general locations where you can look for the information:

  • Engine block: The engine information is often located on the engine block itself. Look for a metal plate or sticker.
  • Cylinder head: Some engines have information on the cylinder head. Look near the top of the engine.
  • Housing: In some cases, the motor information can be placed on the housing of the motor, either on the front or on the side.
  • Frame or base: For some motors, the information is attached to the frame or base of the motor.
  • Owner’s manual: If you have the engine owner’s manual, you can search for information there to find the exact location of the engine information.
  • Online research: If you’re having trouble finding the information, you can also search the model number or manufacturer name online to find out where more information is usually located.

Remember that the exact position of the engine information varies depending on the manufacturer and model. If you are still having difficulty finding the information, it is advisable to consult the engine’s operating instructions or contact the manufacturer directly.

Motor info – what does it say?

The engine information contains important information about the engine of a vehicle. Here are the meanings of the terms:

  • Vehicle: This information normally indicates the vehicle model for which the engine is intended. It could be the brand name, the model and possibly the year of production. For example, it could say: “Deutz D4006”.
  • VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): The VIN is a unique identifier for every vehicle. It consists of a combination of numbers and letters and is used to uniquely identify a vehicle. The VIN provides information about the manufacturer, model, year of production and other specific details of the vehicle.
  • Engine type: This information refers to the type of engine installed in the vehicle. It could include displacement, number of cylinders and other specific characteristics of the engine. For example, it could say: “Deutz F/ BF L 912/ 913”.
  • Engine number: The engine number is a unique identification number for the engine itself. This number is often assigned by the manufacturer and is used to specifically identify the engine. It can also be important if you need spare parts or information specifically for the engine.

This information is often arranged in a table or list on the motor rating plate. It is important to read and understand the information on the engine type plate carefully, especially if you are carrying out maintenance work, purchasing spare parts or require other specific information about the engine.

Just send us a photo of the type plate.

Please ensure sufficient lighting and a sharp image. We generally recommend entering the data manually. The photo function should only be used when it really has to be done quickly.

Motor description

If the nameplate is not known, there are still some features and information you can use to describe your diesel engine. Here are some important points you can specify:

  • Manufacturer: State the manufacturer’s name of the motor. For example, it could be a Deutz, Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar or another manufacturer.
  • Model: If you know the exact model, please state this. For example, this could be “F3L912” for a Deutz engine.
  • Hubraum: Geben Sie den Hubraum des Motors an. Dies ist oft in Litern (z. B. 2,0 Liter) oder Kubikzentimetern (z. B. 2000 cc) angegeben.
  • Number of cylinders: State the number of cylinders the engine has. An example could be “4-cylinder” or “6-cylinder”.
  • Cooling: Specify whether the motor is air-cooled or water-cooled. This is important information for the workshop.
  • Fuel type: State the type of fuel used by the engine. In most cases this is diesel, but there are also other types of fuel.
  • Injection type: Specify whether the engine has direct injection or indirect injection. This can help the workshop with the diagnosis.
  • Performance features: If known, enter information on the power of the motor, such as the rated power in hp or kW.
  • Vehicle information: If the engine is installed in a specific vehicle (e.g. tractor, lorry, generator), also enter information on the vehicle model.
